About Flown

What is Flown?

Flown (on the App Store as Flown: Flight Tracker & Map) is an iPhone app for people who fly. It keeps every flight you've taken on one private world map, with the countries you've been to, a passport of stamps and your stats, and it follows your next flight live, with delays, gate and landing on your Lock Screen. It's made by an independent developer in the UK.

Is Flown free?

Yes. The map, countries, passport, stats, Wrapped, calendar import, iCloud sync, the window seat guide and filling in a flight from its number (up to 40 look-ups a month) are all free. The live features are Flown Pro: £2.99 a month or £19.99 a year in the UK, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. And your first flight day is free.

What is the free first flight day?

The first time you fly with Flown, you get its live features for the day without paying. From 24 hours before departure until you land, that flight shows live status, with delays, gate and landing, and can sit on your Lock Screen. Other flights leaving within 24 hours of it come too, up to four in all, so a connection or a same-day return is covered. No subscription or trial is needed.

What does Flown Pro include?

How much is Flown Pro?

£2.99 a month or £19.99 a year in the UK; the App Store shows the price in your own currency. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial. You can cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.

Which phones does Flown work on? Is there an Android version?

Flown is for iPhone, on iOS 17 or later. There's no Android version.

Who makes Flown?

Flown is made by Stefan Dupey-Whyte, an independent developer in the UK. Questions and ideas are welcome at [email protected].

Your flights and your map

How do I add a flight?

Type the flight number and the date, and Flown fills in the route and times. For a flight in the past the day is enough. You can also pick the airports yourself, with the ones you use most a tap away, add the return in the same go, or let Flown find flights in your calendar.

Can Flown import flights from my calendar? Is that private?

Yes, if you allow calendar access. Flown looks for events that mention a flight number (like “BA 432”) or a route (like “LHR → BCN”) and offers them to you to add. The scan happens entirely on your iPhone: nothing from your calendar is ever sent anywhere.

Does Flown count the countries I've been to?

Yes. Your flights tick off countries, and you can tick any country by hand, including ones you reached by road, rail or sea. Flown counts them out of the world's 197 countries, shows territories as a bonus, keeps a bucket list, and stamps a passport for each one.

Does Flown sync between devices? What happens if I get a new phone?

Flown syncs through your own iCloud account, so your flights and map follow you to a new iPhone and come back if you reinstall. Flown itself never holds a copy.

Does Flown work for flights anywhere in the world?

Yes. Flown knows over 5,000 airports and looks up flights from airlines around the world. The compensation check covers flights under UK261 and EU261.

On the day

Does Flown put my flight on the Lock Screen?

With Flown Pro, or on your free first flight day, yes: a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island shows the departure time, gate and any delay, updates itself as things change, and alerts you when your gate is announced or changes.

Can I follow someone else's flight?

Yes. Add a flight you're meeting or keeping an eye on, such as a partner's or a parent's, and Flown keeps it apart from your own travel history. Following it live, on your Lock Screen, is part of Flown Pro. You can also send someone a link to your flight, which opens in Flown if they have it.

Which side of the plane should I sit on?

Flown's window seat guide answers that for every flight you add: what you might see on each side, from mountains and islands to coastlines and cities, roughly when you'll pass them, and where the sun will be. It's free. For popular routes from the UK, see the window seat guides.

Will Flown tell me if I'm owed compensation for a delay?

For flights covered by UK261 or EU261, the UK and EU rules on air passengers' rights, Flown shows whether your route is covered and the most it could be worth: £220 to £520 under UK261, or €250 to €600 under EU261, per passenger, when you arrive 3 hours or more late. With Flown Pro it checks the actual arrival time and works out what you may be owed, with a link to how to claim. Airlines can refuse when the delay was outside their control, such as weather, strikes or air traffic control, and this isn't legal advice.

Privacy, and other apps

Does Flown have an account, ads or tracking?

No account, no ads and no tracking. Your travel history stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. Live look-ups send only a flight number, route or date. Free look-ups and the first flight day are counted against a random install code that isn't linked to you. The privacy policy has the details.

Is Flown the same as FLOWN, the focus app?

No. Flown, the flight tracker and travel map for iPhone, has nothing to do with FLOWN (flown.com), the deep-work and focus platform. They're different companies with different apps.

Is Flown a replacement for App in the Air?

App in the Air closed in 2024: it left the app stores on 19 September 2024 and shut down on 19 October. Flown covers much of what people used it for: a log and map of every flight, with countries and stats, and live flight status on the Lock Screen. Flown can't read App in the Air's export files, so add past flights by flight number and date, or from your calendar.

How is Flown different from Flighty or Flightradar24?

Flighty is a detailed live tracker for frequent flyers; Flightradar24 shows every plane in the sky on a radar map. Flown is built around your own travel: the map, countries and passport are free, live status costs less, and it adds a compensation check and a window seat guide. There's a fuller comparison.
